LET GOD DO HIS THING

"Send out your applications right away, Thelma, to any recommended
agricultural schools," I told my daughter. "The sooner you have them
in the mail, the better chance you have of being accepted."

Thelma sent out several applications and was accepted at California
Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. We were both delighted. She
applied for grants from the State of California and received help for
her first year. My savings provided for the remaining amount. When I
received the tuition bill for Thelma's second year, she was still
eligible for a couple of grants, but an additional twelve hundred
dollars was needed.

The large sum loomed as impossible. We had no solution, so we gave
our problem to the Lord and left the decision with Him. If Thelma was
to continue college, God would have to meet this need, because we did
not have the money. Strangely we had peace of mind and did not worry.
We placed complete confidence in God.

About two weeks before the tuition deadline, I received a surprise
phone call from some friends who owned a small business. A few years
prior, I had invested our one thousand dollars in their partnership.
Since they had made no profit, no dividends had been paid. Through
the years, I had almost forgotten it.

"We had decided that we are going to terminate our partnership and
incorporate instead.," the owner told me. "Even though we haven't made
any profit, we feel we owe you a little extra money for the use of
your money, so we are mailing you a check for twelve hundred
dollars."

When I informed Thelma, we laughed joyously and praised the Lord for
His provision. What a marvelous witness this was! God knows in
advance what we will be facing, and He goes before us to make a way.
Since that day, we both have had confidence that our Heavenly Father
will be faithful when other seemingly impossible situations arise.
Over the years, that has proven true.

Sometimes we have to wait for a solution while our faith is severely
tested. I think the answer lies in being totally submitted to Him
without becoming anxious. We need to wait patiently until He works out
His plan for our lives that strengthen and mature our faith. -- L..M.

"LORD, we don't see what is beyond us, and so help us to give our
burdens to your loving care. Grant us faith to trust You fully,
knowing that each one You bear. No matter how big our problems may be,
sustain us with a faith that trusts You in life's uncertainty."*
